To Infinity and Beyond
By Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

Have you ever had a contest with someone you love as to who loves more?
Of course, there are those early teenage conversations on the phone when you think you are in love. You say I love you, and they say it back. Then you get into a silly conversation because neither one of you wants to hang up the phone first. The conversation where one says,
I love you to the moon and back.
This is followed up with,
I love you to Mars and back.
This goes on for a while until someone finally says,
I love you to infinity.
The only response is,
I love you to infinity and beyond.
When you have children, you also express your love to them and can even play similar word contests with them to try and let them know how deep your love for them goes.
Love in families is a wonderful thing.
Each January finds me reading a great book, and this January has been no different. The book is called Steps to Christ. Written many years ago, it is really a classic of Ellen White. Each time I read it I am reminded once again how much God loves us.
He truly loves us to infinity and beyond.
He wants us to truly understand how much love He has for us. Consider these words from Steps to Christ.
Christ has bound our hearts to Him by unnumbered tokens in heaven and in earth. Through the things of nature, and the deepest and tenderest earthly ties that human hearts can know, He has sought to reveal Himself to us. Yet these but imperfectly represent His love.
A few pages later we see these words which referred to Jesus becoming human.
Such love is without parallel. . . The more we study the divine character in the light of the cross, the more we see the mercy, tenderness, and forgiveness blended with equity and justice, and the more clearly we discern innumerable evidences of a love that is infinite, and a tender pity surpassing a mother’s yearning sympathy for her wayward child.
God’s love is truly to infinity and beyond. Do you know God’s love for you?
