God's Infinite Interest
By Doug Bing, Washington Conference president
Have you ever heard children talk about infinity? It is rather amusing at times. It is even more amusing when they are arguing about something.
I heard some children once arguing about something once and they got into that back and forth of saying “is not,” “is too.” Then it descended into saying “is not, is too" really really fast back and forth between them. Finally one child said, “infinity is not.” The other child responded, “infinity plus one is too.” After that it kept going as they tried to add more and more onto infinity.
How much is infinity? How does one even answer that question?
As humans we have no idea of what infinity really is. But God does. I love this quote I read this week about how God thinks regarding the human race.
We cannot appreciate how deeply interested He must be in the human family.
Later in that same passage it says: “Jesus gave His life for the life of the world, and He places an infinite value upon human beings.”
That is right! God has an infinite value placed on you. You are more valuable to Jesus than you can imagine!!
Two things we can take away from this.
You are special to God. You are more special to God than you can imagine. It is infinite.
Romans 8:38,39 states:
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
You are of infinite value to God and that is why He says you can’t make me not love you. That is good news.
The second thing is:
The people that God puts in your path each day of your life are also of infinite value.
That means everyone. Not just the people that we like to have in our lives. Even the people that we may not pay attention to very much. Or the people that are really frustrating to us. The homeless person asking you for something while you fuel up your car. The lonely person that hasn’t had a shower for weeks sitting on a park bench. The neighbor with the dog that barks at all hours of the day and night. The coworker that is constantly invading your personal space and maybe needs to use deodorant. You fill in the blank. You know someone that really isn’t that special to you.
But when we realize that to Jesus they are of infinite value, we can start looking at them like Jesus looks at them. We are of infinite value and as a result we have so much love and care to share with others that God places in our path each day.
This week celebrate the infinite interest God has in you.
Then spread that same love and interest to those you come into contact with.
